10th gig at William IV pub on Harrow Rd

Tuesday 2010 15:10 - posted by Rowan Finch

Performed in North London tonight and tried a new 30 second opening. It was well received and think with even better delivery (i.e. greater conviction) it could work even better. Unfortunately nerves got the better of me, but overall it was a successful gig.

9th gig at Up the Creek - Greenwich

Thursday 2010 17:10 - posted by Rowan Finch

I can now say I've performed at Up the Creek. It's a really nice venue with a long history and that's why I was so keen to perform there. I would give myself 6/10. I had reworked my opening and I think for the better. I would have given myself a 7 but I got the shakes towards the end and some people noticed - it was all going really quite well up until that moment. Only 14 acts, so it wasn't an overly late night (it's also down the road for me - woohoo).

8th gig at the Cavendish Arms

Tuesday 2010 15:14 - posted by Rowan Finch

Just got back from the gig, 18th performer out of 20 acts. Mixed response, not a standing ovation for my material /delivery, but definitely not a disaster either.

The positives are that I controlled my nerves, didn't physically shake at all which enabled me to deliver the material exactly how I planned. The long delay before getting my first laugh didn't phase me.

Tried out the Kofi Annan, Guiness World Records and the Cheese Society letters. They liked the last two - unsure about the first one though. However, it was the very first time I ever aired it in public. To soon to make my mind up over it.

Amanda and Jason came and supported me - many thanks guys. Hope it didn't put you off comedy.

Venue: Cavendish Arms
Audience: 50ish

7th gig at Llaugh lives up to its name

Monday 2010 16:11 - posted by Rowan Finch

Another favourable reaction to my letters and, more crucially, me.
Did the following letters: Next, Guinness World Records and The Cheese Society. It was the first time I have used the Cheese Society letter and I set it up really well with a bit of audience participation. Slightly mucked up the closing gag for it though - but that was just nerves.

Venue: Llaugh at the Exhibit, Balham

6th gig at Mama Jong's went very well!

Thursday 2010 15:19 - posted by Rowan Finch

Well my slightly tweaked set seemed to go down very well and I've got my mojo back. It felt I was beginning to connect with the audience...they 'got me' more than in all my previous gigs.

Excited to try it out at another venue.

Venue: The Horse Bar, 124 Westminister Bridge Rd
Audience: approx. 30 (12 acts)
